This error has happened (repeatedly) to every ppc 6700 user I have spoken to. It has been covered on all the forums I check, and seems to be a widespread pandemic. There is no certain cause or rock solid cure, and it can go just as randomly as it starts. There are many fixes (including a hard reset) but there are less drastic and straight forward cures to get your 6700 back to doing what it does best: keeping you online. This "cure" is simple, works, and is well documented and tested on other forums. I happen to have just suffered this bug, and a call to *2 confirmed this method. Because it came from a sprint rep, Im going to call it an "offical" fix. Onto the cure...

1) Identify the problem: The phone radio should be on, you should have signal (1x or EV, doesnt matter) and attemting to connect to the internet results in some error along the lines of "cannot connect to #777, no modem found." The error message itself can be different, but still have the same basic meaning.

2) Delete the existing connection: Goto start/settings and then go to the connections tab. The "Connections" icon is what we want, so 'click' on it with your stylus. 'Click' on the "Manage existing connections" link and you should see your connection, probably named "Sprint Vision" or "Cellular Modem" or whatever you last named it. It should be the only connection there, and if not it should be painfully obvious which one is the main data connection for the sprint network. It should also have #777 listed next to it as the number. Tap the connection with the stylus and hold, the pulldown menu should give you the option to delete it. Delete it.

3) Soft Reset the phone by putting the pointy end of the stylus into the small reset hole at the bottom of the device near the usb port. Your data will not be lost.

4) Setup a new connection: After your phone boots, goto start/settings and then go to the connections tab and hit the "Connections" icon. This time we will 'click' the "Add a new modem connection" link. The name of the connection is not important, just make it someting that you will remember as the primary sprint vision data connection. The default is "My Connection" and that works just fine for me. Below the name input box is a pull bown menu, the default being "Cellular Line." Verify that it says "Cellular Line" and 'click' next. The next screen asks for a number as it should be dialed. This is always #777 for sprint customers. After entering #777 'click' next. There will be input boxes for username, password, and domain. These we will leave empty. 'Click' on finish.

5) Connect to the internet: start internet explorer or whatever browser you want and open a web page. It can be any web page, but I reccomend www.ppc6700users.com because of the great information Very Happy Your ppc will now connect to the internet, or try to, and it will ask for a username, password, and domain. These we will leave empty again, but click the "remember password" box and continue. It will no longer ask you for this information.

This is not a perminant cure, but it will save you a *2 call and allow you to get online when you need to.

This fix gets a rating of only ONE mongoose paw because it is handy but not a real cure.
